Hands up – who can guess which is the most popular day of the year to go ‘down-on-one-knee’?
If you plumped for St Valentine’s, then perhaps think again. Contrary to tradition, it has recently been revealed that Christmas Eve is now peak-proposal time, with New Year’s Eve following not far behind.
When best?
In a national survey of 7,000 men and women conducted by Chillisauce.co.uk, 32% of men and women voted 24 December to be the best day to get engaged. Similarly, Argos has revealed it typically sells almost 200% more diamond rings in the run-up to Christmas compared to Valentine’s Day, with sales reaching an all-time-high on the last day of advent.
(For those still in two minds, Kara Horner, editor of GroomsAdvice, offers advice on: ‘Five Signs She wants You to Propose For Christmas’.)
How best?
However, if you’ve already decided upon when, just not how, the same Chillisauce poll found that a simple approach is often best. Rather than grand or elaborate gestures, over 50% of women prefer a straight up ‘Will you marry me?’.
Similarly, a survey commissioned by Robbins Brothers, the world’s biggest engagement ring store, found that the majority of men and women still favour the classic ‘down on one knee’ approach.
What not to forget
At Assetsure, our busiest period for engagement ring insurance quotations is typically January – a halfway house between the mistletoe and love-heart season.
Whether pre or post ‘popping the question’, (providing it’s a yes!) the engagement ring is likely to become your loved one’s most precious item of jewellery. So it’s important to ensure that an appropriate level of cover is in place from day one.
At Assetsure, we offer an extensive range of specialist policies, including dedicated single item Engagement Ring Insurance. Though nothing can replace the sentimental value of such a precious item, we do offer extensive protection against loss, theft or damage, helping to ease any potential heartbreak and provide greater peace of mind.
